Rainbows: A Reminder of God’s Promise

Stretching across the sky from end to end in all of its bright, multicolored glory, a rainbow is one of the most majestic things on the earth, and it points to the far greater majesty of its Creator in the heavens above.

The first place where we see rainbows in the Bible is in the story of Noah’s Ark.

"5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 7 So the Lord said, 'I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.'"

Genesis 6: 5 & 7

God sent the flood to punish man for their sinfulness.

"But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord", and he and his family were spared in the ark.

God was pleased with Noah and made a covenant with Noah and his descendants, promising never again to destroy the earth with a flood.

"'Thus I establish My covenant with you; Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth' 12 And God said: 'This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.'"

Genesis 9: 11-13

The rainbow, in all of its glorious splendor, shall forever stand as a reminder of the hope and peace that we can only find in God, and God's unfailing, never-ending, everlasting promises to His people.

Nothing Can Stop You

Gladys May Aylward was just in her early 20s when she felt the call of God to become a missionary to China after a revival meeting.

Gladys came from a poor family without much education, but at just 26 she enrolled at the China Inland Mission Centre of London with hopes of being selected as a missionary to China.

She studied hard, but, due to her poor education, failed to pass her classwork.

The Centre told Gladys that she could never learn the Chinese language and would never become a missionary.

Gladys refused to listen to her teacher and worked hard as a maid to save money, praying that God would make a way.

Gladys May Aylward

God answered her prayers and in just one year, she saved enough money for her trip to China!

Although she was told she would never become a missionary and could never learn Chinese, Aylward not only learned Chinese but shared Christ with thousands of men, women, and children.

Gladys cared for 100 children when war broke out, and the Japanese invaded China.

Miraculously, she almost single-handedly led the children through the wartorn Chinese villages to safety; not one life was lost.

Gladys May Aylward did not listen to the naysayers in her life. She was determined to fulfill her God-given calling.

Let this story be an inspiration that all things are possible through Christ, and when you are on God’s side, nothing can stop you.

Lord, thank you for your goodness, mercy, and grace and your willingness to forgive us when we have failed you.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the life of Gladys Aylward and, Lord, help us never to listen to the voices that seek to destroy Your plan for our lives.

In the mighty and most precious Name of Jesus, Amen!
