Leaning on God to See You Through

Sometimes in life, we face things we never imagined would happen, like losing our job, suffering from a freak accident, or the loss of a dear loved one.

Sometimes these situations are completely unexpected and we are absolutely blind-sided..

Of all of the difficult situations we can face in life, the loss of a loved one is perhaps the most painful.

But I want you to know that there is peace in God Our Saviour!

God’s grace and love for us are more than enough to see us through the deepest of sorrows.

When you face the trials of life, Jesus is never far away. I pray that you never forget that God can and will see you through!

It Is Well With My Soul

Many of you may be familiar with the great Hymn titled “It is Well With My Soul”, but few of you likely know the story behind it.

Horatio Spafford was a successful lawyer in Chicago, Illinois, USA, during the 1860s-1870s, who had a loving wife Anna, 4 daughters, and one son(who died at the age of 4 from scarlet fever).

In 1873, Horatio heard that his friend, Dwight L. Moody, would be preaching in England and decided to take his family there to hear him, but, due to delays at work, sent his wife and their four daughters ahead by ship.

On November 22, 1873, the ship carrying his family collided with another vessel somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean.

It sank, taking with it the lives of over 200 passengers, including Spafford’s four daughters, aged 11, 9, 5, and 2. His wife, however, survived.

Spafford boarded the first vessel he could, bound for England.

After a few days at sea, the captain of the vessel called him to the helm and informed him they were passing the place where his wife’s ship had sunk just weeks before.

There, standing on the deck, overlooking the waters where his four daughters had perished, Horatio Spafford penned these powerful words.

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.

Refrain:
It is well with my soul,
It is well, it is well with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ hath regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

My sin—oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!—
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
If Jordan above me shall roll,
No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.

But, Lord, ’tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
Oh, trump of the angel! Oh, voice of the Lord!
Blessed hope, blessed rest of my soul!

And Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.”

Lord Jesus, I am thankful that no matter what trials may come in this life, you will see me through.

Heavenly Father, help me to cast my cares on you rather than trying to bear the weight of my burdens alone.

Oh God, give me the peace that passes understanding when sorrows come and give me faith enough that I, too, might say “It is well with my soul”.

I thank you, Oh God, and I pray these things in the Mighty Name of Jesus, AMEN!
