Sharper Than a Two-Edged Sword

The Bible is one of our greatest tools in the war against sin and death.

Every day we are bombarded with trials, temptations, and adversities, but God has given us the tools to overcome them.

โ€œFor the Word of God is alive and active. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.โ€

Hebrews 4: 12

The Bible is not just another book, it is living and active. Every time we dive into the scripture, God can show us something new that we have never seen before.

When faced with the negativity that surrounds us daily, Godโ€™s Word can be both a refuge for us and a mighty weapon to slash through the dark clouds of discouragement and despair.

The Scriptures are a sharp sword in our hands to defeat the enemy in his plot to steal, kill, and destroy us.

Bible Saves Soldier From Bullet to the Heart

On November 23rd, 1944, James โ€œJimโ€ Hawkins, landed in Hawaii, not knowing that in a few short months, he and his division would be heading straight into one of the bloodiest battles of WW2.

In February of 1945, Jim shipped out of Hawaii bound for the shores of Iwo Jima, Japan with the 3rd Marine Division.

Of the 1,000 men Jim landed with on Iwo Jima, within the first night all but 150 were killed.

In an interview with the Herald-Tribune, Jim recalled the moment that his bible saved his life,

โ€œOn the third day, I was hit in the chest by a bullet that almost knocked me down. A small Bible that was given to me by my church before I left my hometown had stopped a bullet from hitting me in the heart. I still have that Bible with the lead still in it.โ€

James โ€œJimโ€ Hawkins

The Bible says in Psalm 107: 20, โ€œHe sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions."โ€ฆ For Jim, this scripture took on a whole new meaning.

Jim would go on to earn the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts before his retirement from the service.

After retirement from the military, Jim never forgot the time when God used the Holy Bible to save his life from an enemy bullet.

He later became an ordained minister and used his life to further Godโ€™s Kingdom.

Jimโ€™s story serves as proof that God works in mysterious ways and as a reminder to never underestimate the power of Godโ€™s Word.

Join Me in a Short Prayer ๐Ÿ™

Heavenly Father, I thank you for this reminder today that Your Holy Word is my sword and shield.

Lord, renew my desire to spend more time with You in prayer and in Your Holy Scriptures.

Lord, I may not know what trials lie ahead of me, but I know that you will go with me, preparing the way before me and shielding me from the fiery darts of the wicked one.

Oh God, thank you for your goodness, mercy, and grace!

In the most holy and magnificent name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen!
